Tips to overcome some hurdles and blunders that commonly happen in flipped classroom

Access

Make sure your students can assess the content

â—¦Some students might not be able to access the internet at their home

â–¹Get some flash drives, check them out to students

â–¹Burn the videos content onto DVDs

â–¹Get a set of digital devices that you can check out to your students

Watch

Make sure to teach your student how to watch a video:

â–¹How to interact with the video content in a meaningful way that causes them to reflect and think

â–¹Differences based on the maturity of the kids

â–¸What they are ready and prepared to learn

â–¹Length of the video

â–¸1 and 1.5 mins per grade level

â—¦E.g. grade 4 (4-6 mins) grade 10 (10-15 mins)

â–¸Keep it short

Safeguards

Build in some safeguards to make sure all students are actually watching the videos

â–¹Notes

â–¹Embedding google form to collect data

â–¹Post a question in the video and bring the answer of that question as an entrance ticket into class

Perfection...?

Don’t feel the need to make your videos perfect

â–¹Sit in a room with good lights

â–¹Have nice area to work

▹Don’t have distracting background

â–¹Have something nice and simple

▹Teach naturally and organically, speak to the students in a way that’s meaningful to them

â–¹Make the videos as effective content-delivery tool

Start small

Don’t try to do too much all at once

â–¹Flipped class is scalable

â–¹A lesson, a unit or a whole class

▹Start small and figure out what’s the best place to flip

What you should flip for a lesson?

â–¹Something that your kids struggled with

â–¹Embedding google form to collect data
